Coir Mat

A coir mat or coir geotextile is a woven or non-woven fabric made from coir fibers extracted from the outer shell of coconuts. It is biodegradable, eco-friendly, and provides temporary soil reinforcement until vegetation grows.

A coir mat is a natural fiber mat made from coconut husk fibers (coir). These mats are widely used in erosion control, landscaping, and civil engineering — especially in soil stabilization, slope protection, and road construction.

Types of coir mat

 Woven Coir Mat (Coir Geotextile):

  • Made by weaving coir yarns in specific patterns.
  • Comes in different densities (e.g., 400 GSM, 700 GSM, 900 GSM).
  • Used for slope stabilization and erosion control.

Non-Woven Coir Mat (Needle Felt):

  • Made by felting or stitching coir fibers together.
  • Used for cushioning, soil protection, and filtration.

APPLICATIONS

  • Erosion control: Prevents soil erosion on slopes, riverbanks, and embankments.
  • Slope stabilization: Holds soil in place until plants take root.
  • Road construction: Used beneath pavements to separate soil layers and improve drainage.
  • Landscaping & horticulture: Acts as mulch to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.
  • Riverbank & shoreline protection: Reduces washout and promotes vegetation growth.
