Dimple Drain Board
A Dimple Drain Board (also called Dimpled Drainage Board or Dimple Board) is a protection and drainage material used in construction, especially for basements, retaining walls, tunnels, podiums, and waterproofing systems.
A high-density polyethylene (HDPE) sheet with raised dimple-shaped projections on one side. These dimples create air gaps/channels that allow water to move freely to the drainage system.
Key Functions
- Water hits the dimple board instead of the concrete surface.
- The dimples create a drainage path for water to flow downward.
- Water reaches the drain pipe or outlet and is removed safely.
- This prevents water pressure from building up against the structure
Key Functions
- Protects waterproofing membranes during backfilling
- Provides drainage behind retaining walls & basements
- Reduces hydrostatic pressure
- Improves waterproofing performance
- Stops soil & moisture contact with the concrete surface
Advantages
- Lightweight and easy to install
- High compressive strength
- Long-lasting (HDPE is chemical and rot resistant)
- Improves structural durability
- Acts as both protection + drainage layer
Where It Is Used
- Basement retaining walls
- Podium slabs & planter areas
- Tunnels and underground structures
- Bridge abutments
- Green roofs and landscape areas
- Below-floor drainage systems
